1. Consent

By creating an account and/or using IELTS Understood Pro, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. If you do not agree you must stop using the platform immediately.

2. Who We Are

IELTS Understood Pro is operated by English Understood, ABN 6889 3687 284, registered in Australia. Our platform is accessible at ieltsunderstoodpro.com and our support email is support@ieltsunderstood.com.

3. What Data We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account we collect your email address and password. If you register using Google we also receive your name and profile information as provided by Google. If you subscribe to a paid plan your payment is processed securely and directly by Stripe, our payment provider. We do not collect or store your payment details on our servers.

Study and Usage Data

We collect data about how you use the platform including lessons completed, writing submissions, speaking practice sessions, vocabulary progress, grammar practice results and your daily study activity. We may also collect other relevant data. This data is used solely to personalise your learning experience and improve the platform.

Account Settings Data

We collect the preferences you provide during onboarding and in your account settings including your IELTS type, target band score and focus skills.

Technical Data

We automatically collect certain technical information including, but may not be limited to, your IP address, browser type, device type and usage patterns. This data helps us maintain platform performance and security.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

Provide you with access to the platform and all its features
Personalise your daily study plan and learning experience
Facilitate your subscription payments through our third party payment provider.
Send you important account and service notifications
Send you transactional and marketing communications related to your use of the Platform and our Services

5. AI Generated Content and Your Data

IELTS Understood Pro uses artificial intelligence to provide personalised feedback and enhance various features across the platform, including but not limited to writing feedback, speaking practice, vocabulary exercises and other features that may be introduced in the future. In order to provide this AI powered feedback your submissions may be processed by third party AI providers. While we take reasonable steps to work with reputable AI providers we cannot guarantee or control how those third party AI systems handle, store or process the data submitted to them. Their use of your data is subject to their own privacy policies and terms of service.

We do not intentionally share your personal study data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. However by using the AI powered features of this platform you acknowledge and accept that your submissions may be processed by third party AI systems as described above.

If you do not wish your submissions to be processed by third party AI systems you should avoid using this Site and AI powered features of the platform including but not limited to the Writing Checker, Speaking Practice and Grammar Checker.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law English Understood accepts no liability for any loss, damage or harm arising from the collection, use or processing of your data by third party services including AI providers, payment processors or platform infrastructure providers.

6. Cookies

IELTS Understood Pro uses cookies to maintain your login session and remember your preferences. These cookies are necessary for the platform to function correctly. We do not use cookies for advertising purposes. You can disable cookies in your browser settings however this may affect your ability to use the platform.

We may use browser local storage to temporarily cache your daily study plan and other information on your device for performance purposes. This data is stored locally on your device only, is never transmitted to our servers and contains no personally identifiable information. Your cached plan is automatically replaced each day with your updated plan. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser cache or storage settings.

7. Who We Share Your Information With

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share your data only in the following limited circumstances:

Payment Processing: We share limited personal information such as your name and email address with our payment provider Stripe solely for the purpose of processing your subscription payments. Stripe handles all payment transactions securely and we do not collect or store your full payment details on our servers. Stripe's use of your data is subject to their own privacy policy.
Platform Infrastructure: Our Platform is built and operated using third party software infrastructure providers who process data necessary to operate, maintain and deliver the platform and its services. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data handling practices.
Email Communications: We share your email address and name with trusted email service providers to send transactional emails and marketing communications related to our services. By creating an account you provide implied consent to receive such communications. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as reasonably necessary to provide our services and fulfil the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy.

If you choose to delete your account we will take reasonable steps to remove your personal data in a timely manner. Please note that some data may be retained for longer periods where we are required to do so for legal, financial, taxation, compliance or regulatory purposes or where retention is necessary to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements or protect our legitimate business interests.

Please also note that while we take reasonable steps to delete your data upon request we cannot guarantee the immediate deletion of all data held by third party service providers including but not limited to payment processors, email service providers, platform infrastructure providers and AI service providers. The retention of your data by these third parties is subject to their own data retention policies and practices which are beyond our reasonable control.

If you cancel your Pro subscription your account will revert to a free account at the end of your current billing period. Your data including writing history, speaking history and AI feedback will be permanently deleted 30 days after your subscription end date. Your lesson progress and vocabulary progress may be retained permanently but can be deleted at your request.

Free accounts that have been inactive for 90 days will be permanently deleted along with all associated data. You may receive an email notification to your registered email address 7 days before deletion. To prevent deletion simply log in to your account before the 90 day period ends. Accounts that have previously held a Pro subscription will not be subject to automatic deletion.

If you would like to request the deletion of your personal data at any time or have any questions about how long we retain your information please contact us at support@ieltsunderstood.com and we will action your request as soon as reasonably practicable. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing any deletion request.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law English Understood and IELTS Understood Pro accept no liability for the retention or deletion practices of third party service providers.

Request deletion of your account and personal data

Please read their privacy policies before providing any personal information. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for your use of those third-party websites, as we cannot control their content or actions.

13. Children's Privacy

IELTS Understood Pro is intended for users who are of sufficient age to sit the IELTS examination in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information please contact us immediately at support@ieltsunderstood.com and we will take steps to remove that information.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the Last Updated date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the platform after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, English Understood and IELTS Understood Pro, its owners, directors, employees, agents and representatives shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages arising from or related to the collection, use, storage, processing, transmission or disclosure of your personal data howsoever caused.

This includes but is not limited to:

Unauthorised access to or misuse of your personal data
Data breaches, hacking or other security incidents beyond our reasonable control
Loss, corruption or theft of your personal data
Actions of third party service providers including but not limited to payment processors, AI providers, email service providers and platform infrastructure providers
Any interruption, suspension or termination of the platform or its services
Any inaccuracy, error or omission in data stored or processed by the platform

By using IELTS Understood Pro you expressly acknowledge and agree that your use of the platform and submission of your personal data is entirely at your own risk. You agree to waive any and all claims against English Understood and IELTS Understood Pro arising from any of the circumstances described above.

Nothing in this Privacy Policy excludes or limits our liability for matters which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Australian law.
